Golf England Calls for Government Backing for the year 2030 Women's Golf Showcase Bid
The most recent Solheim Cup held on European soil was in Spain last year, while the upcoming tournament set for the Netherlands in 2026.
After the latest men's golf championship success, England Golf is calling on UK authorities to underwrite its bid to stage the Solheim Cup on English soil for the first time.
This renowned tournament between the leading female golfers of Europe and America has taken place on two occasions in Scotland and in Wales but never on English territory. A bid has been assembled to stage it at the Grove venue in Hertfordshire in 2030.
However organizers require £30m to finance this proposal and at present only £10m is in place. England Golf is pressing for public backing to underwrite the funding gap.
Financial Needs and Deadline
Negotiations to acquire public funding started earlier this year yet an answer on whether support will be provided is required quickly. The rights for the 2030 event are owned by IMG who want a decision before month's end.
Per the proposal papers, the organizing committee maintains that winning the hosting rights "provides huge value for the country".

"We are convinced currently it's appropriate for the Solheim Cup should come on English soil," commented the CEO of England Golf.
He continued: "We've provided numerous competitors historically and continue to do so, including Charley Hull, Georgia Hall, or rising stars."

Concerning the advantages to public finance, the executive noted: "Recent events show the type of effect that huge golf events can generate with regards to both local and national economies."

Location Details
The proposed location is located close to London and is well placed to bring in visitors from the London catchment area.
The venue has previously hosted premier competitions and offers hotel facilities commensurate with those required to organize an event such as this caliber.
Financial Breakdown
To host the men's equivalent in Europe would cost more than £400m however for the Solheim Cup it is around £30m.
"We are seeking circa £20m through Treasury support to support the bid," the executive declared.
"This amount supplementing already a significant investment from The Grove and ourselves as well as other partners we plan to contribute."
Time Sensitivity
The spokesperson declined to confirm that discussions are at a standstill, but acknowledged: "Certainly there exists a challenge at the moment concerning whether the Treasury can finance events like this."
"Previous examples demonstrate, including from a world athletics perspective, including from the women's rugby perspective, that they are ready to put their hands in their pocket for certain events."

Government Stance
The government's manifesto prior to the recent election promised dedication to staging global tournaments while pursuing fresh possibilities to inspire young people of players and supporting physical activity and wellness.
